Frequent Asked Questions
This depends on the unique needs of each individual, however as a guide most clients will see James for between 6-20 sessions. At the start sessions are generally best every 1 or 2 weeks and can be spaced out further apart later on in the process if the young person wants this.
This also depends on the unique needs of each person. Sessions with young people may include talking as well as doing activities together (for example cooking, play, movement, art or sport). For children under 12 years old there is also information gathering and discussion sessions with the child's parent. In sessions all children, young people and families can expect to feel respected, seen, heard and supported.
The first part of the therapy process is about me building rapport with the child/young person and gaining an understanding of who they are as a whole person.... including their strengths, wishes, life circumstances, and any mental health or wellbeing concerns that they want to navigate through. After this we make a joint plan moving forward, this may involve further talk based therapy, activity-based sessions or recommendations and referrals to other services etc.
Most sessions are in-person in either Broadford or Essendon (depending on where you book). The exact location of the session will be discussed in your introduction call and confirmed by text or email. There is also limited capacity for James to meet some young people and families in the community (e.g. walk and talk in a park, at home, at your young person's school etc.) This option can be discussed with James if it suits your young person better (outreach surcharge applies).
For private paying clients, the amount for the session will be charged to your card on file after 4.00 pm the evening before your child/young person's session. A cancelation fee of the full session amount applies from 4.00pm the day prior to the appointment.
For clients using funds in their NDIS plan to pay, an invoice will be issued after the appointment, these invoices must be paid within 5 calendar days of it being issued. Your child/young persons next session will not proceed until the invoice from the pervious session has been paid.
Unfortunately not at this time.
Please contact me to discuss if you are seeking support for a child/young person but cannot afford my standard fee. I have a very small amount of reduced fee appointments available. If I do not have any lower fee sessions available at the time you enquire, I will send you a list of low cost services in the community.
